Common LG Appliance Problems and How to Prevent Them

LG refrigerators with linear compressors are efficient and quiet, but the compressor and its inverter board are sensitive to power surges, and a common early sign of trouble is the unit cycling on and off more frequently than usual. LG's InstaView door-in-door models can develop seal and hinge wear at the secondary door, letting warm air in and increasing frost buildup in the freezer. LG front-load washers with TurboWash technology are prone to drain pump filter clogs and mold or odor buildup in the door gasket if the drum isn't left open to dry. LG dryers, especially heat-pump models, need regular cleaning of both the lint filter and the secondary condenser filter, or drying times get progressively longer. LG dishwashers commonly develop a clogged filter or spray arm, leading to spotty or poorly cleaned dishes. LG smart appliances with ThinQ connectivity occasionally need a Wi-Fi module reset or software update when they lose connection to the app.

To extend the life of an LG refrigerator, keep it plugged into a surge protector and avoid overloading the shelves, which can block internal airflow. Check the InstaView door seal periodically and keep the hinges free of debris. On the washer, leave the door and detergent drawer open after each cycle and run a tub-clean cycle monthly to prevent mold and odor. Clean the dryer's lint filter after every load and the secondary condenser filter every 1–2 months. Rinse the dishwasher's filter every 2–3 weeks under running water. If a smart appliance loses its Wi-Fi connection, restarting the router and the appliance's ThinQ module usually resolves it — if problems persist, a technician can check the module itself.
